We got three last-minute tickets to Matilda last Friday night, the last weekend it was in Portland! Madsen had a basketball game, so I took the girls. We absolutely LOVED it! When a favorite story by a favorite author is put to music, you don't want to miss it. The differences from the book were enjoyable, and The Trunchbull killed it. She was PERFECT! Great play!
This week, we had an early release from school and no piano lessons, so we headed to OMSI (Oregon Museum of Science and Industry) to see Nathan Sawaya's Lego creations! This exhibit was AMAZING and he is one talented artist. Imagine my delight when the whole show began with great pieces inspired by art history!! Yesssss....
These two (below) were my favorite...how do you do this with LEGOS?? So. cool.
Well done, Cora... :)

And this was an optical illusion - you had to stand just the right way so the figures created an eye!
Celia was a bit creeped out...
These figures were part of an installation Sawaya did in NYC - they were placed in a park and people could write their names on the Lego bricks with Sharpies. So neat!
They just couldn't stop staring!
This was a cool collaboration with a photographer. The photographs were minimal and bizarre, and then would have one or two Lego objects inserted into them, ha! Loved it.
The kids loved the room at the end where you could build and play with bins and bins of Legos. Wish we could've stayed longer!
He wasn't happy when I had to explain that he couldn't take his newly made creation (an airplane) home. :(
Cora was loving all the different rainbow-colored blocks,
Madsen created The Thinker (in profile view), and Celia's 3D wave was inspired by Hokusai's The Wave! Such a fun outing.
We got to visit with Travis's Uncle Clair on Sunday while he was visiting from Utah. The kids love him and here's Cora trying to figure out one of his magic tricks. :)
These two have been playing so well together lately! Sure they fight, but not as often, it seems.
Cora was home sick with a bad cough this week, so we dug through our stuff and found these green I Spy jars we made a few years ago. They were like new for Bowen, who didn't remember them!
We woke up to snow one morning when Celia was home sick...(yes, another sick kid. NOT pneumonia this time, but almost!)
And this kid survived a crazy, AWFUL rash from antibiotics last week (thank heavens that's over), and was in heaven at the tire store this week.
He also loves it when I bake. Like, ALOT. He asks for muffins or some kind of chocolate chip bread almost every day! This was Chocolate Banana Bread by Two Peas and Their Pod. YUMMY, that's all I have to say. It didn't last long in our house!
Here's hoping sickness will leave our house, that spring and sunshine will come soon, and the flowers will bloom (this time last year, the flowers were out and the flowering pink trees on the way to school were amazing!).
