Rose Garden

Happy May! The month started off in one fantastic way - with a trip to Belize! We just returned a couple days ago, so pictures are coming soon. In the meantime, I met my friend Brittany and my SIL Katie at the Portland Rose Garden yesterday. It's one heavenly place when the roses are in bloom - and it isn't even currently at its peak yet. Maybe we'll go back next week!

Bowen loved the flowers at first...then was pretty much just interested in his airplanes. :)

Lots and lots of unopened buds, still!

These (above and below) were absolutely gorgeous!

And this striped beauty was incredible, which you can't really tell from the photos.

Above is from my digital camera, below from my iphone. The stripes still aren't as lovely as they are in person, I promise!

Look at those huge rhodies below!

Like I said, he was only interested in his airplanes. And bringing some to fly at the amphitheater is a MUST!

Hangin' out with cousin Liberty:

...and having serious discussions about the roses.

Kiddos and Brittany found a BIG antpile. Fascinating!

Five of these blooms below were all on the same stem! Such color variation is amazing.

The following are iphone pics:

A nice woman let Bowen and Liberty pet her dog for awhile. Bowen totally LOVED it.

It's been years since I went to the Rose Garden, but I simply must rectify that and make it a yearly trip like the tulip festival. :)

27 April 2016

Destination: Redmond, OR

Tax season is OVER. And we've never felt better about it. We agreed that this year's tax season was probably the most stressful one we've ever had. It felt good to head off to Redmond, Oregon for a few days. It was dry and sunny, just perfect weather for swimming, a couple hikes and walks, playing baseball, and just bumming around.

Sisters, Oregon is a cute town nearby, and wow it has changed ALOT in the past few years! The sidewalks are new and widened, and most notably, our favorite little candy store is gone. :( The kids were so sad (me too, because it used to be in a quaint antiques shop!), but we had fun anyway.

I guess she likes to talk to fire hydrants...I turned around, and there she was, chatting away and asking it how it was doing that day. (??)

We stopped at Smith Rock on the way home - we had some cranky kids (see 2nd pic) and it was JAMMED with hikers and rock climbers (no parking anywhere!) - so we just took a few quick pics. We love that area. The hikes are so fun and we always love watching the rock climbers!

Until next year, Redmond!
Or sooner. ;)
