School was cancelled one day last month for a "wind storm"...our basketball hoop was knocked over, but that's about it. We decided to head downtown, visit Dad in his new office space and swing by the library. As we started home, we headed over near Fort Vancouver and Officer's Row, where the old army barracks are. The kids have literally begged to go to Fort Vancouver multiple times, but we've never been able to go. Here was a WIDE open day (meaning: I was out of fun ideas), it wasn't raining, and there was no school. So I said YES! The gardens outside the fort are beautiful. The fall flowers were still blooming:
We headed inside and the big kids got to fill out a scavenger hunt as they walked around to each building inside the fort.
Three blacksmiths were working hard that day, making nails and hooks. They gave us a hook to take home. The kids sure loved watching the process.
I could have totally lived here...corsets, candles and all.
These colors!! LOVE them! There were enough artifacts around to recreate this building in its original colors, the way it would have looked. Amazing, right? This blue is AWESOME. There was another room painted in Kelly green - it was incredible!
These guys all became Junior Rangers over the course of their visit to the fort.
Sometimes spontaneous adventures are the best ones. :) It was a good day (despite Bowen's face).
